Do's and Dont's about Grass Care

DON'T

Mow your lawn the same day of the week if it doesn't need mowing! Check the growth first.

DO

Plant your new grass at the beginning of the season. Plant new cool season grass seed in later summer/early autumn and new warm season grass when you see other grass, such as neighbours in full green growth.

DON'T

No need to water the grass in the afternoon or evening and NEVER water at night! It is the best time for fungus growth! Don't water grass on a regular basis without the heat of sun which will help to control disease.

DO

Water your lawn deeply to ensure that the soil is moistened at the root of the grass. This will encourage root development and help the grass resist stress, disease and damage.

DON'T

Water the lawn with light, frequent waterings unless you are helping new grass to establish. The result will give a shallow root to the grass and it will be more susceptible to disease and insect damage.

DO

Check for pests regularly. Pull the thatch apart and dig into the soil. Have a look at the stems. Check for discolouration, insect damage, and signs of disease.
